Sunset Rollercoaster is a 5-piece jazz-influenced synth-pop band from Taipei, Taiwan. The group is currently signed to Sony Music Taiwan. The band has released two studio albums, three EPs, and several singles. Their music style has been described as "a unique blend of synth-pop, jazz, R&B, and Taiwanese folk" and compared to Stereolab, Air, and Phoenix. Sunset Rollercoaster's music is known for its use of vintage synthesizers and drum machines. The band has used a wide variety of equipment over the years, including the Roland Juno-60, Yamaha CS-30, Korg MS-20, and Moog Voyager. The band was formed in 2010 by singer/songwriter/producer Jonathan Lee and keyboardist/producer Alan Hsu. The two had been friends since high school and had previously played together in a band called White+ (白色加). After the dissolution of White+, Lee, and Hsu decided to form a new project that would blend their love of synth-pop, jazz, and Taiwanese folk music.
They were soon joined by Kuo Hung Tseng, Shao Hsuan Wang, Hung Li Chen, drummer Jason, bassist Evan, and guitarist Jasper. The band's name was inspired by the song "Sunset Rollercoaster" by Japanese city pop artist Tatsuro Yamashita. The band released its debut EP, Kaleidoscope, in 2011. The EP was well-received by critics and helped the band gain a following in Taiwan. In 2012, the band released their first full-length album, Rabbit's Foot. The album was a commercial and critical success, earning the band a Golden Melody Award for Best Newcomer. The band's second album, Cocoon, was released in 2014. The album was another success, earning the band a Golden Melody Award for Best Group. In 2016, the band released their third EP, Three.
