The Original Misfits are an American punk rock band formed in Lodi, New Jersey in 1977. Led by singer and songwriter Glenn Danzig, the band is often credited as pioneers of the horror punk subgenre, blending punk and other musical influences with horror film themes and imagery. The Misfits have released seven studio albums to date, with their debut album 'Walk Among Us' being released in 1982. This album included hit singles such as "Skulls" and "Astro Zombies" which helped them gain a cult following throughout the US. In 1983, the band released their second album 'Earth A.D./Wolfs Blood', which featured more aggressive lyrics than their previous work and further cemented their reputation as one of the most influential bands of the era. They continued to tour extensively throughout the US and Europe until they disbanded in 1983 due to creative differences between Danzig and bassist Jerry Only. In 1995, Danzig reformed The Misfits with new members including guitarist Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein and drummer Dr Chud. With this lineup, they released two more albums: 'American Psycho' (1997) and 'Famous Monsters' (1999).
The Misfits have been nominated for numerous awards over the years including a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance for their single "Scream". They have also been inducted into both the Hardcore Hall of Fame (2005) and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (2017).
