The Black Dahlia Murder (TBDM) is an American melodic death metal band from Waterford, Michigan. Formed in 2001, the band has gained a cult following due to its unique blend of technical and melodic death metal. TBDM's name is derived from the 1947 unsolved murder of Elizabeth Short, often referred to as Black Dahlia. TBDM's debut album Unhallowed was released in 2003 and received critical acclaim for its combination of speed and aggression with melodic undertones. The album spawned several singles including "Funeral Thirst" and "A Vulgar Picture". Since then, the band has released seven more full-length albums, all of which have been praised by fans and critics alike. In 2008, TBDM won Metal Hammer's Golden Gods Award for Best Underground Band and in 2010 they were nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance for their single “Moonlight Equilibrium”.
In addition to their The Black Dahlia Murder albums, TBDM has also released two live albums: Live at Hammersmith Apollo (2009) and Abysmal (2015). These releases showcase the band's impressive musicianship as well as their ability to engage with their audience during a performance. The band has also toured extensively throughout Europe, Asia, North America, South America, Australia, and New Zealand over the years. 2023 will see TBDM embark on an extensive tour across the United States in support of their new album Verminous.
