Static-X was formed by three high school students in a Los Angeles suburb who were fans of metal bands such as Megadeth and Sepultura. The band combined electronic dance music with metal fury to become one of the most respected nu-metal groups of the late 1990s. The group melded electronic dance music with heavy metal fury to earn a coveted place in both the 1999 and 2000 Ozzfest events. The group's debut album, Wisconsin Death Trip, was released in 1999 and was a huge success. The album featured the hit single "Push It", which helped the album go platinum. The band followed up their debut with 2001's Machine and 2002's Shadow Zone. Both albums were met with critical acclaim and commercial success. The band has continued to tour and release new music, most recently with their 2014 album Start a War. Despite their success, the band has had to overcome a number of lineup changes and tragedies. Original bassist Wayne Static left the group in 2005 and was replaced by Tony Campos. Drummer Ken Jay died in 2008 after suffering from a brain tumor. These tragedies have only made the band stronger, and they continue to tour and release new music.
