Slipknot Band is an American heavy metal band that has been around since 1995. Formed in Des Moines, Iowa, the band consists of percussionist Shawn Crahan, Michael Pfaff, drummer Jay Weinberg, Jim Root, Corey Taylor for lead vocals, Sid Wilson, Mick Thomson, and bassist Alessandro Venturella. They have released nine studio albums and won two Grammy Awards for their songs “Before I Forget” and “Psychosocial”. Their debut album Slipknot was released in 1999 and went mainstream with subsequent gold and platinum efforts like Iowa, Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses), All Hope Is Gone,5: The Gray Chapter, We Are Not Your Kind, and their album We Are Not Your Kind. The band also went on several world tours including the Iowa World Tour in 2001-2002, the Subliminal Verses World Tour in 2004-2005, the All Hope Is Gone World Tour in 2008-2009, the Prepare For Hell Tour in 2014-2015, the Summer's Last Stand Tour in 2015-2016, and the Knotfest Roadshow North America 2019 tour. Throughout their career, they have had a variety of masks that have become iconic symbols of Slipknot’s identity.
Clown (Shawn Crahan) was the first to come up with this concept shortly before their first gig on Halloween 1995. Each member has had multiple masks throughout their career which have changed over time as they evolved musically and visually. Slipknot has achieved great success over the years with numerous awards including two Grammy Awards for Best Metal Performance for “Before I Forget” (2006) and “Psychosocial” (2009).
