Sevendust is a rock band originating from Atlanta, Georgia; it was formed in 1994 by bassist Vince Hornsby, drummer Morgan Rose, and rhythm guitarist John Connolly. Lead vocalist Lajon Witherspoon and guitarist Clint Lowery joined the band in 1995. The band has released eleven studio albums, one live album, three compilation albums, and two DVDs. As of 2009, they have sold over 12 million records worldwide.
Snake Nation was a band formed by bassist Vince Hornsby in 1994 when he joined drummer Morgan Rose to form Snake Nation. Guitarist John Connolly replaced him as a member of the group. The band changed its name to Sevendust and released their self-titled debut album on October 31, 1997. The album was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) on June 30, 1999. It featured the singles "Black" and "Bitch".
The second album, Home, was released on April 13, 1999. The album debuted at number 19 on the Billboard 200, selling over 64,000 copies in its first week of release. It was certified platinum by the RIAA on October 5, 1999. The singles "Denial" and "Waffle" were released from the album.
Seasons, Sevendust's fourth album, was released in 2003. The album sold about 68,000 copies in its first week and debuted at No. 14 in the US. It was certified gold by the RIAA on May 19, 2004. The singles "Enemy" and "Beautiful" were released from the album.
On May 23, 2007, Next was released as Sevendust's seventh studio album. It debuted at number 9 on the Billboard 200 with first week sales of 58,900 copies. The single "Ugly" was released on May 15, 2007.
On October 28, 2008, Sevendust released their eighth studio album Chapter VII: Hope & Sorrow. The album debuted at No. 19 on the Billboard 200 and sold 33,400 copies in its first week of release. It is the band's second consecutive album to debut in the top 20. The first single "Prodigal Son" was released on September 30, 2008.
On October 13, 2009, it was announced that Sevendust was working on a new album, to be released in early 2010. On February 23, 2010, it was announced that the new album would be titled Black Out the Sun. The album was released on March 26, 2013, and sold 28,400 copies in its first week to debut at No. 12 on the Billboard 200 chart. It was their highest-charting album since 1999's Home. The singles "Decay" and "Till Death" were released in support of the album.
