Memphis May Fire is an American metalcore band formed in Denton, Texas and currently signed to Rise Records. The band was founded in 2006 by former Oh, Sleeper guitarist Kellen McGregor and bassist Josh McManness. Memphis May Fire has released five albums, with their most recent being Unkind (2016). The band, which was started in Denton, Texas, in 2006 by founding vocalist Chase Ryan, guitarist Ryan Bentley, and bassist Tanner Oakes, did not officially adopt the name Memphis May Fire until February 2007. Previously, the group went by the moniker Oh Captain, My Captain. The band's first EP, This Light I Hold, was released on November 22, 2011. The album peaked at No. 24 on the Billboard Heatseekers Albums chart and No. 6 on the Hard Rock Albums chart. The group's second studio album, Challenger, was released on June 26, 2012. The album debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard Hard Rock Albums chart and No. 32 on the Billboard 200, selling 22,000 copies in its first week of release. The album's lead single, "Vices", peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs chart and No. 7 on the Alternative Songs chart. On October 28, 2014, Memphis May Fire released their fourth studio album, Unconditional. The album debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200, selling 42,000 copies in its first week of release. It also peaked at No. 1 on both the Top Hard Rock Albums and Top Alternative Albums charts. The album's lead single, "No Ordinary Love", peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs chart and No. 4 on the Alternative Songs chart. On July 22, 2016, Memphis May Fire released their fifth studio album, This Light I Hold. The album debuted at No. 16 on the Billboard 200, selling 20,000 copies in its first week of release. On November 18, 2016, the band released "Miles Away", featuring Disturbed frontman David Draiman, as the lead single from their sixth studio album, forthcoming on Rise Records. The song peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs chart. A song called "Virus" by Memphis May Fire was released on June 20. The song is a "one-off tune," according to Matty Mullins, and won't be included on the upcoming album. On October 20, 2017, Matty Mullins published a picture of the group recording their upcoming album in The Hideout Studio with producer Kane Churko. On March 24, 2018, Matty Mullins posted a picture of Drew Fulk putting the finishing touches on the album's mixes. The band issued more songs in late 2021 and early 2022, including "Death Inside," "Bleed Me Dry," "Somebody," "Left for Dead," and "The American Dream."
