About Living Colour

Living Colour is an American rock band from New York City, formed in 1984. The group was founded by guitarist Vernon Reid and bassist Muzz Skillings, the latter of whom left the group in 1992. Throughout their career, Living Colour has released six studio albums, two live albums, and two compilation albums. Their debut album Vivid (1988) was certified double platinum and earned the band a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance. It featured the singles "Cult of Personality" and "Glamour Boys," which both reached number 13 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart. The album also earned them a nomination for Best New Artist at the 1989 Grammy Awards. Living Colour's second album Time's Up (1990) was also certified double platinum and earned them another Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance with the single "Type." This album included other popular songs such as "Love Rears Its Ugly Head," "Elvis Is Dead," and "New Jack Theme." Their third album Stain (1993) peaked at number 13 on the Billboard 200 chart and was certified gold in Canada. It features fan favorites such as "Leave It Alone," "Go Away," and a cover of Neil Young's classic song "Rockin' In The Free World." In 1995, Living Colour released their fourth studio album, Collideøscope, which received positive reviews but failed to reach the same level of success as their previous releases. After Muzz Skillings left the group in 1992, Doug Wimbish took his place as bassist; he stayed with Living Colour until 2000 when Corey Glover rejoined the band. In 2003, they released their fifth studio album entitled The Chair in the Doorway which peaked at No. 68 on Billboard 200 chart. Finally, in 2017, they released Shade which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Independent Albums chart and No. 3 on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums chart – making it their most successful release since 1993! Living Colour has been nominated for five Grammy Awards throughout their career, winning two for Best Hard Rock Performance with “Cult Of Personality” (1989) and “Type” (1991). They have also been inducted into Guitar Player magazine's Hall Of Fame along with having numerous songs featured in movies such as “Glamour Boys” in National Lampoon’s Vacation (1983), “Cult Of Personality” in Major League II (1994), “Love Rears Its Ugly Head” in Heavy Metal 2000 (2000), among many others!
