Hellripper, James McBain's solo project, was formed in 2014 in Glasgow, Scotland. He developed a signature high-speed, raw sound after being influenced by 80s thrash and black metal. Hellripper's early releases, including Coagulating Darkness (2017) and the EP The Affair of the Poisons (2018), received critical acclaim for their aggressive riffs and relentless energy, establishing the band as a leading act in modern underground metal.

Hellripper has toured Europe and North America, playing festivals such as Bloodstock and Hammer of Doom. Tomb of Horror (2020) and other albums made it to the metal charts, earning praise for their speed, precision, and retro-inspired production. Collaborations and splits with other metal artists helped him gain credibility in the extreme metal community.
