Hatebreed is an American metalcore band formed in 1994 from Bridgeport, Connecticut. The group is signed with Nuclear Blast Records and has released seven studio albums, two live albums, one video album, 13 singles and 17 music videos. They have played at various live venues and festivals worldwide, including Ozzfest, Download Festival, Wacken Open Air and Vans Warped Tour. Hatebreed was founded in 1994 in Bridgeport, Connecticut by Jamey Jasta. The band's first lineup featured guitarists Wayne Lozinak and Lou "Boulder" Richards, bassist Chris Beattie and drummer Danny Diablo. This lineup recorded a three-song demo tape during the summer of 1994 which led to their signing with Victory Records. Shortly after recording the demo, the lineup changed with the departures of Richards and Beattie. Lozinak and Diablo were joined by bassist Sean Martin and drummer Tino Vivid. This lineup recorded one single titled "Before Dishonor" in early 1995 which was released through Victory Records. The band started touring in support of their single which caught the attention of many record labels including Roadrunner Records and Epic Records. The band signed with Roadrunner Records and started recording their debut album in August 1995. The album, entitled Satisfaction is the Death of Desire, was released on November 28, 1996. The album featured the singles "Betrayed" and "Final Prayer", both of which received airplay on MTV2's Headbanger's Ball. The album was certified gold by the RIAA in 2005. In early 1997, the band toured Europe with Biohazard and made appearances at various festivals including My Brother's Blood Fest and With Full Force Festival. The band returned to the United States in late 1997 and started touring in support of Satisfaction is the Death of Desire. This tour included dates with Cradle of Filth and Incantation. In January 1998, the band started recording their second album, entitled Perseverance. The album was released on May 5, 2002 and debuted at number 61 on the Billboard 200 chart. The album featured the singles "I Will Be Heard" and "Empty Promises", both of which received airplay on MTV2's Headbanger's Ball. The album was certified gold by the RIAA in 2006. In June 2002, the band toured Europe with Slayer and Slipknot. The band also made appearances at various festivals including Ozzfest, Download Festival and Hellfest. The band returned to the United States in August 2002 and started touring in support of Perseverance. This tour included dates with System of a Down, Mudvayne and Drowning Pool. Hatebreed's song "Live for This," which was featured on their album The Rise of Brutality, was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance at the 47th Grammy Awards in Los Angeles in December 2004. Ultimately, Motörhead won the prize with their rendition of Metallica's "Whiplash," which was included on the album Metallic Attack: The Ultimate Tribute. Hatebreed's music has been referred to as metalcore, hardcore punk, and beatdown hardcore because it combines heavy metal and hardcore. Along with other bands in the 1990s metalcore movement, they are seen as significant to the formation of metalcore for fusing influences from hardcore and punk rock as well as heavy metal subgenres including thrash metal and groove metal (such as Earth Crisis, All Out War, Integrity and Converge). Crossover thrash has an influence on them as well. Jasta also referred to Hatebreed as "hardcore Celtic Frost." Buy Hatebreed tickets.
