Geoff Tate is a multi-Grammy nominated singer, songwriter, and composer. He has been a major force in the music industry since the early 1980s, first as the lead vocalist of the progressive metal band Queensrÿche and later as a solo artist. Tate's rich baritone voice and powerful stage presence have earned him worldwide acclaim and numerous awards, including two Grammy nominations for Best Metal Performance. Tate's career began in 1981 when he joined forces with guitarist Chris DeGarmo to form Queensrÿche. The band rose to prominence with their 1988 album Operation: Mindcrime, which went on to become one of heavy metal's most successful albums. It spawned several hit singles, including "Eyes of a Stranger," which earned Tate his first Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance. This was followed by an extensive tour that included dates in Europe and North America. In 2001, Tate returned to Queensrÿche with the release of their eighth studio album, Operation: Mindcrime II. The album received critical acclaim and was certified gold in both Canada and the United States. Following its success, Tate embarked on another world tour that included stops in Europe, Japan, Australia, and South America. His latest solo effort is Kings & Thieves (2012), an eclectic mix of rock 'n' roll, blues and folk influences that showcase his diverse vocal range and songwriting skills. Tate has also been involved in numerous side projects over the years including his collaboration with former Megadeth drummer Nick Menza on the 2012 album Frequency Unknown; his work with the supergroup Soulbender featuring members of Alice In Chains; his involvement with progressive metal band Rising West; as well as various other projects such as appearing on albums by acts like Korn or Anthrax among others.
