Dying Fetus is a renowned American death metal band from Greater Upper Marlboro, Maryland. The band was formed in 1991 by guitarist/vocalist John Gallagher and drummer Jason Netherton. On June 17, 2008, it was announced that guitarist/vocalist John Gallagher and drummer Kevin Talley had left the band. They were replaced by guitarist Mike Kimball and drummer Trey Williams (of Misery Index). A music video was released for the song "Your Treachery Will Die With You" on August 29. The video was directed by David Brodsky of MyGoodEye.
On May 11, 2009, the band announced that they had completed work on their fifth studio album, Descend into Depravity. The album was released on September 15 in Europe and September 29 in North America through Relapse Records. It debuted at number 119 on the Billboard 200, selling approximately 4,600 copies in its first week of release.
The band went on tour in support of the album with Obituary, Exodus, and Prong. A music video was released for the song "From Womb to Waste" on October 30. The video was directed by Scott Hansen of A Day to Remember.
