Carnifex is an American deathcore band from San Diego County, California. Formed in 2005, they are currently signed to Nuclear Blast and have released seven full-length albums. The band's first two albums – Dead in My Arms (2006) and Despise the Sun (2007) – were independently released before they were signed to Victory Records in 2008. The following year they released their third album Of Doom and Death, which peaked at No. 194 on the Billboard 200, making it their highest-charting album to date.
Carnifex's fourth album, Die Without Hope, was released on March 4, 2014 and charted at No. 90 on the Billboard 200, becoming their second album to chart on the US Billboard 200. On May 27, 2015, the band released their fifth album Slow Death. It peaked at No. 85 on the Billboard 200, making it their third album to chart in the US. On October 7, 2016, Carnifex released their sixth album Slow Death. On March 2, 2018, the band announced that they had signed with Nuclear Blast and would be releasing their seventh album World War X on July 20, 2018.
The band revealed the release date for their seventh album, World War X, on August 2, 2019, in a YouTube video for their new song, "No Light Shall Save Us," which was posted on June 6, 2019. The 2019 Summer Slaughter tour, which also featured The Faceless and Cattle Decapitation, featured Carnifex as co-headlining act. Support acts for the tour included Rivers of Nihil, Nekrogoblikon, Lorna Shore, and Brand of Sacrifice. Neal Tiemann will replace Jordan Lockrey as lead guitarist on Carnifex's 2020 European tour with Thy Art Is Murder, the band announced on January 10th, 2020.
