Avenged Sevenfold is an American heavy metal band that has been rocking the music scene since 1999. Formed in Huntington Beach, California, the band consists of vocalist M. Shadows, lead guitarist Synyster Gates, rhythm guitarist Zacky Vengeance, bassist Johnny Christ, and drummer Brooks Wackerman. The band's sound has evolved from a post-hardcore style to a more melodic metalcore sound with the release of their third album City Of Evil in 2005. The band’s debut album Sounding The Seventh Trumpet was released in 2001 and featured songs such as “To End The Rapture” and “Warmness on the Soul”. This album established Avenged Sevenfold as one of the leading bands in the metalcore genre and gained them a large fan base worldwide. In 2003, they released their second studio album Waking The Fallen which saw them further develop their sound into something more melodic and powerful than before.
This album featured singles such as “Unholy Confessions” and “Chapter Four” which quickly became fan favorites. In 2005, Avenged Sevenfold released their third studio album City Of Evil which saw them move away from their hardcore roots and towards a more classic heavy metal sound. This album featured some of their most popular songs to date such as “Bat Country”, “Beast And The Harlot”, and “Burn It Down” which all charted highly on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Since then they have released four more albums including Hail To The King (2013), The Stage (2016), Nightmare (2010), and most recently The Best Of 2005-2013 (2013). All these albums have seen great success with fans worldwide thanks to their unique blend of hard rock riffs combined with melodic choruses.
Avenged Sevenfold has also been awarded numerous awards over the years including two Grammy nominations for Best Metal Performance for "Nightmare" (2011) and "Hail To The King" (2014). Additionally, they have won numerous Kerrang! Awards for Best Live Band (2008), Best Album (2009), and Best International Band (2009) among others.
