The group of three was well-known in the 1980s and early 1990s, especially in New York City, Chicago, and Miami. Tony Ortiz, Louis "Kayel" Sharpe, and Ralph "Aby" Cruz—the band's initial lead singer—were its founding members. Kayel and Aby clashed frequently within the group; as a result, the latter was eventually replaced by Angel "Love" Vasquez, which gave Kayel the opportunity to take over the lead vocals.
