Paloma San Basilio Martínez, better known as Paloma San Basilio, is a Spanish singer, songwriter, composer, and actress. Paloma San Basilio was born on November 19, 1947, in Madrid, Spain. Her father was a professor of mathematics and her mother was a homemaker. She has two brothers and one sister.
San Basilio began her musical career as a backup singer for Spanish pop singer Camilo Sesto. She rose to prominence in her home country in the mid-1970s with a string of hits, including "Ese Hombre" and "La Bola de Cristal". In 1977, she represented Spain in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "La fiesta terminó", which finished in fourth place.
San Basilio relocated to the United States in the early 1980s and continued to release albums in both Spanish and English. She has appeared in a number of films and television shows, including The Cosby Show and Miami Vice. San Basilio has been awarded numerous honors throughout her career, including the Orden del Mérito Civil in 2009 and the Premio Nacional de la Música in 2014.
