Manuel Mijares is an adult-contemporary pop singer who is billed simply as "Mijares". He has been popular in Latin America since the early 1980s. He was born in Tepic, Nayarit, Mexico and he received a Grammy Award for Best Mexican-American Performance in 1986.
During the 1990s Mijares transitioned from simple ballads to a more sophisticated pop sound. In 1996 he released his most successful album to date "Si Me Tenias". The album's first single "Si Me Tenias" became a smash hit in Mexico and throughout Latin America. The album went on to sell over two million copies worldwide.
Mijares has continued to release successful albums throughout his career. His most recent album "Caminar Contigo" was released in 2014 and debuted at number one on the Mexican Albums Chart.
Mijares is a multiple-time winner of the Latin Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Album. He has also won multiple Premio Lo Nuestro Awards and a Grammy Award.
He was chosen by DreamWorks in 2000 to perform three Elton John songs for The Road to El Dorado in Spanish. He also released Historias de un Amor that year, a record with songs he co-wrote. A duet with Canadian singer-songwriter Gino Vannelli was the highlight of Mijares' 2004 album Cappuccino.
Honor a Quien Honor Merece, a tribute album by Mexican singer José José, whom Mijares cites as one of his primary influences, was published in 2005. Mexico awarded the album gold and platinum certification. Acompaame, a duet album with Yuri that went platinum in 2006, was also popular.
Mijares has sold over 20 million albums throughout his career. He is one of the most successful Latin American pop singers of all time.
