Intocable, translating to "Untouchable" in English, is a talented group hailing from Zapata, Texas, and specializes in Regional Mexican music genres such as Norteño and Tejano. In the early 1990s, two friends - Ricardo Javier Muñoz and René Orlando Martínez - had an idea that eventually blossomed into a business. Throughout a handful of years, Intocable's innovative sound blended Tejano and Norteño genres. This unique style combined elements from traditional conjunto music found in Tejano with popular folk rhythms from Norteño along with contemporary pop ballads for an unforgettable mash-up. Intocable is without a doubt the most impactful group in Tejano and their powerful combination of music styles, namely Tejano/Norteño fusion has been imitated by countless other bands that wish to replicate their success. Featuring romantic, catchy melodies combined with bold instrumentation and beautiful vocal harmonies, the group's style is truly unique.
Despite the band's humble beginnings, their initial independent albums proved to be a commercial disappointment in the early 1990s. In February of 1994, their album Fuego Eterno made a mark in the Latin music industry with its impressive sales under the new label EMI Latin. Ramón Ayala's music has left an indelible mark on the band, with lead vocalist and accordion player Ricky Muñoz noting him as his utmost source of inspiration. In 1997, the band encountered a blow when two members of the group—Johnny Lee Rosas (bajo sexto and 2nd voice), and Albert Ramirez (bass)—left to start their outfit, Grupo Masizzo. Tragically, on the evening of January 31st, 1999 two members of the band and their road manager were killed in a car accident on their way to board an airplane from Monterrey's General Mariano Escobedo International Airport en route to Mexico City. José Ángel Farias and Silvestre Rodríguez succumbed alongside José Ángel González who was also traveling with them at that time.
The group's van was suddenly thrown off balance when one of its tires blew, leading to a disastrous rollover on the Mexican Federal Highway 40. Thanks to Ricky Muñoz's decision to wear his seat belt, he was the sole survivor of the van that flipped over; while all other occupants were scattered on either side of the highway. Muñoz and each other participant of the group endured various injuries, requiring them to remain in a Monterrey hospital for weeks. Following an extensive six-month break, Intocable returned to the stage with their newest release Contigo (With You), featuring the single "El Amigo Que Se Fue" (The Friend That Has Left). This heartfelt tribute was a commemoration of all those members who could no longer join them. In 2003, Rosas resolidified herself into the group with four successful solo albums under her belt.
On a summer night in 2017, Intocable made its Canadian debut with an unforgettable performance in Toronto, Ontario. After the pandemic caused a halt in activities, Intocable triumphantly returned to touring on June 11th, 2020 - an event that was highly anticipated by fans. It all started with a successful Drive-In show in Poteet, Texas - the beginning of their journey to success. On June 30, 2020, Ricky Muñoz - the lead singer of an unnamed group - declared that a shocking 5 members had tested positive for COVID-19. With 20 Latin top 10 hits, Intocable achieved great success. Intocable has achieved numerous successes in the Latin music chart including their album Nuestro Destino Estaba Escrito, and several of their songs making it to the top ten.
