About Gilberto Santa Rosa

Gilberto Santa Rosa, nicknamed "El Caballero de la Salsa" is a Puerto Rican bandleader and singer of salsa and bolero. He collaborated with the Puerto Rican All Stars to record Homenaje an Eddie Palmieri (Tribute to Eddie Palmieri) in the 1980s. Along with other orchestras, he also recorded with the Tommy Olivencia and Willie Rosario orchestras. Santa Rosa created a distinctive "soneo" (improvisation) technique for salsa that allowed him to excel in both the "tropical" and "romantic" musical genres. In 1987, Santa Rosa signed with Sony Discos and released his first album with them, entitled Conciencia. The album's success was followed by the release of his second album for Sony, Irresistible (1988), which included the hits "No Te Vayas" and "Perdóname". In 1989, he released the album Identidad, which featured the hit singles "Así Es La Vida" and "Tu Amor Me Hace Bien".

In 1990, Santa Rosa was awarded a Grammy for Best Tropical Latin Performance for his album En Vivo. In 1991, he released the album Viviendo (Living), which included the hits "Preciosa" and "Somos Novios". In 1992, he released the album Déjame Entrar (Let Me In), which included the hit single "Déjame Entrar". The single "Fulana" (What's her name?) from the album Expresión and the album Romántico, both released in 2001, extended Santa Rosa's successful run. Viceversa, which he published in 2002, was a "hit" among the Latino population in both the United States and all of Latin America. The album was very popular in the clubs and on the radio. The first single, "Ven a Buscarme" ("Come and Get Me"), was a huge hit in several countries.

In May 2003, Santa Rosa's greatest hits album, Gilberto Santa Rosa & Friends: Live at Madison Square Garden, was released. These double-disc CD/DVD set features live renditions of some of his most popular songs, as well as four new studio tracks. Santa Rosa's album En Vivo: Desde el Carnegie Hall (Live from Carnegie Hall) was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Tropical Latin Album in 2006. In 2007, he won the Grammy Award for Best Salsa Album for the album Irrepetible. Santa Rosa has toured extensively throughout the United States, Latin America, Europe, and Asia. He has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the world, including Madison Square Garden, Radio City Music Hall, The Apollo Theater, The Hollywood Bowl, and The London Palladium. He has also appeared on television shows such as The Tonight Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and Good Morning America.
