María Guadalupe Araujo Yong better known as Ana Gabriel, is a Mexican singer and songwriter from Guamuchil, Sinaloa, Mexico. At the tender age of six, Ana Gabriel stepped onto a stage for the first time and sang “Regalo A Dios” by José Alfredo Jiménez. That beautiful moment marked not only her debut but also ignited an unquenchable love for singing and performing that still lives within her today! Her professional career began in 1971 when she met songwriter and producer Ricardo López Méndez, who took her under his wing and became her first husband. The following year, Gabriel released her second album, Algo Especial, which featured the hit single "Eres Todo en Mi". Throughout the 1980s, Gabriel released a series of successful compilation albums including Quieres Ser Mi Amante (1981), Pecados Ajenos (1982), Ay Amor (1984), Tierna la Noche (1984), and Aguila Real (1987).
In the early 1990s, Gabriel's career stagnated. She took a break from the music industry and divorced López Méndez. In 1993, Gabriel made her comeback with the album Pasión y Romance, which featured the hit single "Amor Prohibido". The album was a commercial success and helped Gabriel regain her place in the Latin music industry. In the late 1990s, Gabriel released a series of successful albums including Los Angeles (1997), En la Plaza de Toros México (1998), and Soy Como Soy (1999). These albums featured a more pop-influenced sound and helped Gabriel appeal to a wider audience. In the early 2000s, Gabriel released the albums En Vivo (2001) and Para Siempre (2002). These albums featured Ana Gabriel shows or live performances of some of Gabriel's most popular songs. In 2003, Gabriel was awarded the Latin Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Album for Para Siempre. In the late 2000s, Gabriel released the albums En Prendido Fuego (2008) and Mi Mexico (2009). These albums featured a more traditional ranchera sound and helped Gabriel appeal to her older fans.
In 2010, Gabriel announced that she was going on an indefinite hiatus from the music industry. In 2016, Gabriel made her comeback with the album Voces del Alma. The album featured the hit single "La La La". In 2018, Gabriel released the album Mi Mexico en Vivo. The album featured live performances of some of Gabriel's most popular songs. Gabriel has sold over 30 million albums worldwide. She is considered one of the most successful Latin artists of all time. So, it's not surprising that she achieved three consecutive number-one albums on the Billboard Latin Pop Albums chart with her immense following. She was awarded 'Best Pop Female Artist' at the Lo Nuestro Awards in 1991 and again in 1992, establishing herself as a top artist. The popular song ¡Ay, Amor! achieved unprecedented success by remaining at the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks chart for a remarkable 14 weeks. Throughout her remarkable career, Gabriel has reaped astonishing rewards and accolades including a Grammy Award nomination, four Latin Grammy Award nominations as well as thirteen Lo Nuestro Awards.
