About Wiz Khalifa

Khalifa's stage name is derived from Khalifa, an Arabic term that means "successor" or "wisdom". When he was younger, Khalifa stated that he was excellent at everything and got nicknamed "Young Wiz". Khalifa began to rap at the age of nine. In 2004, Khalifa released his independent debut album Show and Prove. Khalifa was born Cameron Jibril Thomaz on September 8, 1987, in Minot, North Dakota, to parents from Sierra Leone. His mother worked for a non-profit organization, and his father was in the military. Khalifa is the eldest of five siblings. His cousin, Ty Dolla Sign, is also a rapper. At a young age, Khalifa learned to play the piano, guitar, drums, and saxophone. He was raised Muslim and attended Perry Traditional Academy for primary school.

In 1996, Khalifa started rapping under the name "Wiz Khalifa", and he released his first mixtape, Prince of the City: Welcome to Pistolvania, in 2005. He signed to Rostrum Records in 2007 and released his second mixtape, Grow Season. In April 2009, Khalifa released his third mixtape, How Fly, which featured the single "Say Yeah". Khalifa signed with Atlantic Records in 2010. In March 2011, Wiz Khalifa released his fourth album, Rolling Papers. The album's lead single, "Black and Yellow", peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. The second single, "Roll Up", peaked at number six on the Hot 100. The third single, "No Sleep", peaked at number seven on the Hot 100. "Remember You", featuring Canadian rapper The Weeknd, peaked at number eight on the Hot 100. Khalifa has appeared in films such as Mac & Devin Go to High School (2012), Fast & Furious 7 (2015), and Fate of the Furious (2017). He has also appeared in television shows such as Hawaii Five-0 and Black-ish.
