Lowkey (Kareem Dennis), born in 1983 in London, grew up steeped in political and cultural debates, which influenced his socially concerned lyrics. In his teens, he started creating poetry and rapping after being inspired by Tupac, Dead Prez, and UK grime. His debut mixtape, Key to the Game (2003), drew recognition in underground hip-hop circles, establishing him as a politically conscious voice in the UK rap scene.

His 2008 album, Dear Listener, peaked at number 57 on the UK Albums Chart, cementing his reputation for mindful lyrics. Lowkey played at Glastonbury 2010, collaborating with Immortal Technique and M.I.A. Singles such as "Obama Nation" and "Long Live Palestine" gained critical acclaim. The UK Hip-Hop Award for Best Mixtape was presented in 2007. Extensive tours in Europe and North America followed, including over 200 live performances.
