His mother is of Italian descent and his father is of German and Irish ancestry. Friars-Funkhouser was raised in the city's Mount Baker neighborhood. As a child, he showed an early interest in music and art. He took piano lessons and learned to play the drums. In high school, he played in various bands, including a death metal band called Auroch. In 2010, Friars-Funkhouser began releasing music under the name Fish Narc. His first release was a self-titled EP, which he followed with the albums "Loft" (2011) and "Tower" (2012). Official's music has been featured on television shows such as "90210" and "Pretty Little Liars." His song "As It Is" was used in a commercial for the video game "Destiny."
