DJ Jazzy Jeff, also known as Jeffrey Allen Townes, is an American disc jockey and music producer. He is best known for his work in the duo DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince with Will Smith and their hit single "Summertime". His career began in the early 1980s when he started performing at house parties and local clubs. After meeting Will Smith, they formed the duo DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince. They released their first album Rock the House in 1987, which earned them a Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group. Throughout his career, DJ Jazzy Jeff has produced several albums and singles that have been critically acclaimed and commercially successful. His production credits include chart-topping hits such as "Parents Just Don't Understand" (1988), "Boom! Shake the Room" (1993), and "Men In Black" (1997). He has also produced songs for artists such as Slick Rick, LL Cool J, 2Pac, Big Daddy Kane, Queen Latifah, Musiq Soulchild, Jill Scott, and many more. He also co-produced Will Smith's solo albums Big Willie Style (1997) and Born to Reign (2002).
In addition to producing music for other artists, DJ Jazzy Jeff has released several solo projects over the years including The Magnificent EP (2009), Vinyl Destination (2010), Summertime: The Mixtape Volumes 1 - 3 (2011 - 2013), M3 (2014) and Chasing Goosebumps: A Journey Through Life Volume 1 & 2 (2015). He has also collaborated with many other popular producers such as 9th Wonder on The Return of the Magnificent album in 2007. In recent years DJ Jazzy Jeff has continued to tour around the world performing his classic hits as well as new material from his latest projects. He will be embarking on a 2023 tour which will take him across North America and Europe where he will be performing at some of the biggest venues in each city.
