Digable Planets is an American hip-hop trio from Brooklyn, New York, consisting of Ishmael “Butterfly” Butler, Mary Ann “Ladybug Mecca” Vieira, and Craig “Doodlebug” Irving. Formed in 1992, the group rose to fame with their debut album Reachin' (A New Refutation of Time and Space). The album received critical acclaim for its jazz-influenced sound and lyrical content. It spawned several hit singles including "Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat)," which won a Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group in 1994. Digable Planets followed up their success with Blowout Comb in 1994. The album was praised for its smooth beats and socially conscious lyrics. In 2021, Digable Planets released their first album in 25 years called Reachin' 2: The New Refutation Of Time & Space. This album features guest appearances from some of the biggest names in music such as Erykah Badu, Talib Kweli, and Roy Ayers.
