The Union Underground was created in San Antonio, Texas, in 1996, with hard rock and nu-metal elements. Bryan Scott (vocals) and Patrick Kennison (guitar) were among the original members. Early performances at local clubs established a strong following. Their 2000 debut album, An Education in Rebellion, including singles like "Turn Me On 'Mr. Deadman,'" which drew mainstream notice while reflecting their high-energy, rebellious style and stage presence.
An Education in Rebellion debuted on Billboard, and The Union Underground toured with Korn and Slipknot.
