The act originally used the name Saron Gas until 2002, when they changed it to Seether to avoid confusion with the deadly chemical known as sarin gas. Seether rose to fame with their hit single "Fine Again". The song peaked at number four on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2003. "Broken" was another successful single from the album that peaked at number two on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and won a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance in 2004. Seether's fourth studio album, Holding Onto Strings Better Left to Fray, was released on 15 May 2011. It peaked at number two on the Billboard 200 and was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The lead single "Country Song" topped the Active Rock Songs chart and peaked at number two on the Mainstream Rock Songs chart. The second single "Tonight" peaked at number 11 on the Mainstream Rock Songs chart. Seether's fifth studio album Isolate and Medicate was released on 1 July 2014. It debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, making it their first number-one album in the United States. The lead single "Words as Weapons" peaked at number one on the Mainstream Rock Songs chart. Seether has sold more than 17 million albums worldwide and has had nine number-one singles on the US Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs chart. Three of their albums have been certified double platinum, while two have been certified platinum. The band's ninth studio album, Poison the Parish, was released on 12 May 2017.
