Joseph Fidler Walsh is an American musician who has been active for over five decades. He is best-known as a member of the James Gang, Eagles, and Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band, but he has also played with the New Zealand band Herbs and 1990s supergroup The Best. He has released several solo albums. Walsh began his musical career in 1965 as a member of the James Gang, a power trio that also featured drummer Jim Fox and bassist Dale Peters. The band released three albums between 1966 and 1968, with Walsh contributing vocals and guitar to such songs as "Funk 49" and "Walk Away". The James Gang became one of the most popular bands in the Midwest, but Walsh left the group in 1971 to pursue a solo career. He released his debut album, Barnstorm, in 1972. The album featured a number of high-profile guests, including Joe Walsh on guitar and Bernie Leadon on mandolin. The album was well-received by critics, but it failed to sell in large numbers. Walsh's next album, TheSmoker You Drink, the Player You Get, was a more commercial affair and featured the hit single "Rocky Mountain Way". The album was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and helped to establish Walsh as a solo artist. In 1975, Walsh collaborated with the Eagles on their album One of These Nights, playing guitar on the title track and co-writing the song "Pretty Maids All in a Row". He also toured with the band as a replacement for guitarist Bernie Leadon. In 1976, Walsh released his third solo album, But Seriously, Folks... The album featured the singles "All Night Long" and "Life's Been Good", which would become two of his best-known songs. Walsh continued to tour and release albums throughout the 1980s and 1990s. He also formed the supergroup The Best with members of the Eagles and Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band.
