Bruise Control got its start in 2010 in Chicago, where they mixed hardcore punk and metal. Tony Vega, the lead singer, grew up in punk clubs and started creating songs when he was 14. Their early self-released tracks got little recognition in their hometown, but their 2012 EP Pain & Fury made them a presence in the hardcore scene, recognised for their nonstop intensity and aggressive lyrics.

The hardcore charts in the U.S. put the 2015 album Shatterproof at number three. They travelled a lot over North America, playing more than 80 performances a year and going to festivals like This Is Hardcore and Maryland Deathfest. Working with people who have been around the punk scene for a long time gave them more legitimacy. Live shows with songs like "Fractured" and "No Regrets" were very popular.
