Will Wood is an American artist who sings, writes songs, composes music, makes films, and tells jokes.
From one song to the next, Wood's piano-led approach frequently shifts, incorporating elements of klezmer, folk, pop, jazz, rock, and roll. He has frequently been joined by "The Tapeworms," a group that consists of Mike Bottiglieri on guitar, Matt Berger on alto saxophone, Mario Conte on drums, and Vater Boris on bass. The group is renowned for its exuberant live shows. Wood generally performs solo, with his performances combining stand-up comedy, music, and monologue.
In 2015, he started putting out songs with his band, "The Tapeworms." He released two studio albums under this persona: Everything is a Lot in 2015, SELF-iSH in 2016, and The Real Will Wood, a live album in 2018, which also served as the music to the parody concert movie of the same name.
The Normal Album was launched as a crowdsourced project in 2019, raised $27,631, and released under his own name in 2020.
In case I make It, his most recent studio album, was crowdfunded on Indiegogo in October 2021. Wood claims that the album is his most personal to date and adds, "I've always attempted to continually reinvent myself as an artist. But this time is different because, to put it mildly, I've reinvented who I am as a person. Even a year or two ago, I couldn't be more different than I am now.
Before the album's official release, six singles from it were made available, one of which being You Liked This (Okay, Computer! ), a spoken word black comedy song about social media sites. It features voice actress Bev Standing, whose voice TikTok, a video-sharing social media company, allegedly borrowed without permission for their text-to-speech tool. Prior to the album's crowdfunding campaign, Wood released the song "Sex, Drugs, Rock 'n' Roll" in September 2021. (also featured on the album). Wood released the song on June 10. The complete album was released on July 27 to rave reviews.
In 2022, Wood and Shayfer James together released the single "Ferryman."
