About Todd Snider

Todd Daniel Snider is an American singer-songwriter. His music incorporates elements of folk, rock, blues, alt country, and funk. He often tells stories through his songs, which are humorous and often laced with socio-political commentary. He has released seventeen studio albums and is currently signed to Aimless Records.

Snider was born in Portland, Oregon, and raised in Austin, Texas. His mother was a stay-at-home mom and his father was a business owner. He began playing guitar at the age of eight and started writing songs when he was thirteen. His first band was called the Nervous Breakdowns. He attended Austin High School and then dropped out to play music full-time.

In 1986, Snider moved to Nashville, Tennessee, with aspirations of becoming a country music singer. He started out playing in clubs and bars, and eventually landed a gig opening for country music legend Hank Williams Jr. In Nashville, he met fellow singer-songwriter Jimmie Dale Gilmore, with whom he would later collaborate.

In the early 1990s, Snider's career began to take off. He released his debut album, Songs for the Daily Planet, in 1992. The album's title track was a top-40 hit on the country music charts. He followed up with 1994's West Nashville Grand Ballroom Gown and 1996's East Nashville Skyline.

In 1998, Snider released his fourth album, Viva Satellite. The album's lead single, "Talkin' Seattle Grunge Rock Blues", was a top-10 hit on the Billboard Modern Rock charts. The album's success helped Snider land a deal with Capitol Records.

Snider's fifth album, New Connection, was released in 2001. The album's lead single, "Alright Guy", was a top-40 hit on the country music charts.

In 2003, Snider released his sixth album, Eastside Bulldog. The album's lead single, "Play a Train Song", was a top-10 hit on the Billboard Modern Rock charts.

In 2006, Snider released his seventh album, The Devil You Know. The album's lead single, "America's Favorite Pastime", was a top-40 hit on the country music charts.

In 2009, Snider released his eighth album, The Excitement Plan. The album's lead single, "Don't Tempt Me", was a top-40 hit on the country music charts.

On April 23, 2021, Aimless will release First Agnostic Church of Hope and Wonder, realizing Snider's long-held dream of fusing funk and folk. The album features cameos from Vusi Mahlasela, Becca Stevens, Michael Ward (from Drive-By Truckers), and many more. Recorded in Nashville with a band of all-star musicians, First Agnostic Church of Hope and Wonder is an uplifting, joyful record that celebrates life's simple pleasures: good food, good company, and good music.

In the meantime, Snider continues to tour extensively throughout the United States. He has also been a guest on numerous television and radio shows, including The Late Show with David Letterman, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Conan, and NPR's All Things Considered.
