The Irish Rovers is a group of Irish musicians that originated in Toronto, Canada. The band has been together for over 50 years and is best known for their hit songs "The Unicorn" and "Whiskey in the Jar". The group has released over 30 albums, including several gold and platinum records. At an Irish event in Toronto in 1963, George and Jimmy Ferguson, who was also from Ireland, became friends. They formed the Irish Rovers and sang together until daybreak. The Irish Rovers soon became a regular act at The Celtic Tavern in Toronto. They recorded their first album, The Unicorn, in 1967. The album included the original version of "The Unicorn", which was later covered by The Irish Descendants and become a No. 1 hit in Canada. In 1971, the Irish Rovers toured Ireland for the first time. They were so well-received that they decided to move to Ireland permanently. The band has since toured all over the world, including the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. The group kept on touring and making music. When Joe Millar's son, Ian Millar, joined the family ranks in 2005, Joe Millar stepped down from the band. Before Ian took over for his father, Joe and Ian gave a joint performance. The twoMillars now playIrish flutes and penny whistles together in the band. When their song "The Titanic," taken from their album Drunken Sailor, was released in 2012, Belfast and the Harland and Wolff shipyard, which had constructed the Titanic a century earlier, came to light. In addition to being aired in a Canadian documentary for the CBC, the song and accompanying music video gained attention in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and helped to restore credit for the ship's construction to Belfast's shipyards. A response to YouTube activity was the album. Finding The Irish Rovers tickets for cheap can be tough, but Yadara has got you covered.
