About The Head and the Heart

The Head and the Heart is an American indie folk band. The group's self-titled debut album was released on April 26, 2011, and II was released on September 10, 2013. All the band members Charity Rose Tielen, Chris Zasche, Kenny Hensley, Tyler Wilson, Josiah Johnson, and Jonathan Russell met after a series of open mic nights in a pub in Seattle. Johnson divulged the story behind why they chose their band name: "Society dictates that you stay secure and get a steady job, but your heart is pushing you to pursue what seems illogical - your passion for music." The Head and The Heart music was also featured on various, widely popular television shows. “Rivers and Roads” was used for both Chuck as well as How I Met Your Mother, and “Down In The Valley” was used for the British television The Head and the Heart live show, “Beaver Falls.”

The Head and the Heart band is currently signed to Warner Bros. Records and their third studio album Signs of Light was released on September 9, 2016. The Head and the Heart performed in Los Angeles at the Staples Center on October 6, 2017. On March 14, 2019, the band declared they would be releasing their fourth The Head and the Heart album entitled Living Mirage on May 17th along with their initial single "Missed Connection". On April 5, the band dropped their second single from their album - "Honeybee". Afterward, they unveiled a live stream performance on March 21 at The Belasco in Los Angeles! This spring and autumn, the band is embarking on a tour of 38 North American cities. They announced it in conjunction with their single "Every Shade Of Blue" which was released on January 21, 2022, from their upcoming fifth studio album (also titled Every Shade Of Blue) due out April 2023 of that same year.

The Head and the Heart possess a timeless essence especially this 2023. I vividly remember the initial encounter with "Rivers and Roads," an exceptional song from the band's eponymous debut album in 2009. It evoked a sense of freshness while also feeling like a cherished relic from bygone times. One could easily envision this indie folk epic about friends parting ways, whether it be sung around a fire on a wagon trail heading west or performed by a group of college buddies reminiscing over the cheap beer after graduating in 2010. The imagery evokes a sense of nostalgia and captures the bittersweet essence of friendship and change. The Rise of The Head and the Heart is a legendary tale in Seattle's music scene. They drew crowds at Ballard's Conor Byrne Pub and independently sold over 10,000 CDs before ultimately signing with Sub Pop. Their journey is a testament to their talent and perseverance.
