Tanec (Macedonian: Dance) is a folk music group from Skopje, North Macedonia. It is recognized as the Macedonian folklore tradition's ambassador across the world. The Tanec was formed by the Government of the People's Republic of Macedonia in 1949 with the goal of collecting, preserving and demonstrating Macedonian folklore: folk songs and dances, folk instruments, and national costumes. The ensemble is inspired by ancient Macedonian culture and customs. It also has a juvenile group.
The group has toured extensively throughout Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas. It has participated in many international folklore festivals, including those in Bulgaria, Romania, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Turkey, Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Algeria, Morocco, and more. The group has also toured the former Soviet Union countries.
The ensemble won first prize at the International Festival in Llangollen (United Kingdom) in 1950. In 2008, Tanec was awarded the "Order of Merit for Macedonia."
