Penelope Scott is an American songwriter, vocalist, and producer. All of her music is self-produced. Scott published her debut record, Public Void, in August 2020, three months after releasing the compilations Junkyard (2020) and The Junkyard 2 (2020). In August 2020, she released her debut album, Public Void. "Rät" hit 29 on Billboard's Hot Rock & Alternative Songs Chart. Scott's EP Hazards was released in 2021.
At the age of eight, Scott began studying the piano. She concentrated on writing lyrics and learning how to produce in middle and high school. In college, Scott enrolled in a music production class and began posting her songs online.She released her debut album, Public Void, on Bandcamp on August 29, 2020, and it became available for streaming in September 25, 2020. Towards the end of 2020, Scott's music started becoming popular on TikTok.
On November 4, 2020, Scott released the single "Born2Run," which had already gone viral. The song became popular after the 2021 storming of the United States Capitol because its lyrics described a young person's fantasy of taking over the government through force. On April 30, 2021, Scott was featured as a singer on the song "Brittle, Baby!" by Char Chris. She also made an appearance in its music video but as an animated version of herself.
