Madison Cunningham, an American singer, songwriter and guitarist born on October 14th 1996. Based in Los Angeles, Cunningham draws influence from classic artists such as Carole King, The Beatles and Joni Mitchell.
Madison Cunningham was raised in Costa Mesa after moving there after being born in Escondido, California. She has four sisters and is the daughter of a local church pastor. Cunningham began playing the guitar at the age of seven and began performing in churches under the influence of her father. She met producer Tyler Chester while she was a teenager, and they collaborated on the self-released worship album Authenticity (2014), which she later took down from streaming services because she thought it was no longer relatable. Christianity "looks different to me all the time," Cunningham said of her faith. "I use the expression with my husband, 'I'm becoming more and more of an agnostic every day.'"
Cunningham joined the cast of Chris Thile's American Public Media program Live from Here in 2017, and the two soon began working together often. Additionally, she performed on tour with multi-instrumentalist Andrew Bird, whose 2019 album My Finest Work Yet bears her voice.
The performer dropped by NPR's Tiny Desk on August 3, 2022, performing four songs from her upcoming album Revealer. Madison was a "audacious guide, leading us into exploration with the shrewd sections she played on three different guitars over the course of four songs," according to NPR music contributor Jewly Hight.
Cunningham released Revealer, her third studio album, on September 9, 2022. With each song on Revealer, Cunningham shows that she can please and surprise her audience at the same time, and it's one of the most enchanting albums published thus far in 2022, according to Paolo Ragusa, editorial coordinator for Consequence.
