  • Gregory Alan Isakov, born on October 19, 1979, in Johannesburg, South Africa, has established himself as a prominent figure in the indie folk music scene. Emigrating to the United States with his family in 1986, he was raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Isakov's musical journey began early; by the age of 16, he was touring with a band, honing his craft and developing a distinctive sound that blends introspective lyrics with melodic instrumentation. In 1999, he relocated to Colorado to study horticulture at Naropa University, a move that would influence both his music and lifestyle. Balancing his passion for music with a commitment to sustainable agriculture, Isakov has seamlessly integrated his dual interests, often drawing inspiration from nature and his experiences as a farmer. His early discography includes self-released albums such as "Rust Colored Stones" (2003) and "Songs for October" (2005), which laid the foundation for his evolving artistry. These works, characterized by their raw acoustic elements and poetic storytelling, garnered a dedicated following and set the stage for his subsequent success. Over the years, Isakov's music has continued to evolve, leading to critically acclaimed albums like "That Sea, the Gambler" (2007) and "This Empty Northern Hemisphere" (2009). The latter features collaborations with Brandi Carlile, adding depth and harmony to tracks that explore themes of longing and introspection. In 2013, he released "The Weatherman," an album that further solidified his reputation for crafting songs rich in imagery and emotion. Demonstrating a unique fusion of folk sensibilities with orchestral arrangements, Isakov partnered with the Colorado Symphony in 2016 to produce an album that reimagined his earlier works, offering fans a fresh perspective on his music. His 2018 album, "Evening Machines," received a Grammy nomination for Best Folk Album, highlighting his continued relevance and artistry in the contemporary music landscape. Isakov's songwriting often reflects his life as a farmer, with nature serving as a central motif in his lyrics. When not on tour, he dedicates his time to managing his farm in Boulder County, Colorado, where he cultivates produce for local markets and restaurants, embodying a harmonious blend of his musical and agricultural passions. Looking ahead to 2025, Gregory Alan Isakov is set to embark on an extensive tour, bringing his evocative melodies to audiences across the United States and Europe. The tour kicks off on March 11 in Nashville, Tennessee, at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center, featuring a collaboration with the Nashville Symphony. Subsequent performances include dates with the Chicago Philharmonic at the Auditorium Theatre on March 13 and 14, and with the Greensboro Symphony at the Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts on March 16. Isakov's tour also encompasses appearances at iconic venues such as Madison Square Garden in New York City on March 27, where he will share the stage with Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats. In August, he returns to the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado, for performances on August 31 and September 1, featuring special guest Leif Vollebekk. The European leg of the tour commences in October, with shows at the Paradiso in Amsterdam on October 15 and 16, and at the O2 Academy in Glasgow on October 22. Throughout the tour, fans can anticipate setlists that span Isakov's extensive catalog, including beloved tracks like "The Stable Song," "Big Black Car," and selections from his latest album, "Appaloosa Bones," released in 2023. This tour not only celebrates Isakov's enduring musical journey but also offers audiences an opportunity to experience the profound connection between his art and the natural world he cherishes.
