Elisapie Isaac is a Canadian Inuk musician, broadcaster, documentary filmmaker, and activist. She spent her childhood in Salluit, Nunavik, Quebec, and moved to Montreal in 1999 to pursue communication studies to become a journalist. Elisapie has been making music since 2006 when she released her debut album There Will Be Stars. This album featured her heartfelt songs that blended traditional Inuit music with modern pop-rock influences. In 2009, Elisapie released her second album The Ballad of the Runaway Girl. This album was a huge success and earned her multiple awards including two nominations for the Polaris Music Prize in 2010 and 2011 as well as three Juno Award nominations for Aboriginal Album of the Year. Her third album Travelling Love was released in 2013 and is considered to be one of her most successful albums to date. It received critical acclaim from fans and critics alike for its blend of traditional Inuit music with modern pop-rock influences.
Elisapie has also made a name for herself as an activist for Indigenous rights and environmental justice. She has served on the board of directors at Makivik Corporation since 2014 and is an ambassador for the United Nations' International Decade of People's Rights campaign. She has also been involved with various charitable organizations such as Amnesty International Canada, Oxfam Canada, Greenpeace Canada, and Plan International Canada. 2023 will mark Elisapie's return to touring after taking a break due to the pandemic last year!
