Chris Thile, the award-winning mandolinist, singer, songwriter, composer, and radio personality has been a mainstay in the progressive acoustic and bluegrass music world for over two decades. Born in 1981 in Oceanside, California, he was raised in a family of musicians and began playing the Chris Thile mandolin at age five. By the time he was eight years old, he had won his first national title at the National Old-Time Fiddle Contest. Thile's career skyrocketed when he formed Nickel Creek with his childhood friends Sara Watkins and Sean Watkins in 1989. They released four albums to critical acclaim from 2000 to 2007 including their Grammy Award-winning album This Side (2002). In addition to their success as a Chris Thile band, Thile also released three solo albums during this period: Not All Who Wander Are Lost (2001), Deceiver (2005), and How To Grow A Woman From The Ground (2006). In 2006 Chris Thile founded Punch Brothers with Chris Eldridge, Greg Garrison, Noam Pikelny, and Gabe Witcher. Punch Brothers have since released seven studio albums including Antifogmatic (2010), Who’s Feeling Young Now? (2012) and All Ashore (2018). Their most recent album The Phosphorescent Blues was nominated for Best Americana Album at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards. In addition to his work with both Nickel Creek and Punch Brothers, Thile has collaborated with many other artists such as Yo-Yo Ma on their 2012 album The Goat Rodeo Sessions which won a Grammy Award for Best Folk Album. He is also host of Live From Here; a weekly radio show which showcases live performances from various musical guests. 2023 is set to be an exciting year for Chris Thile fans! He will be touring across North America as well as performing select dates in Europe later in the year. His tour will feature both solo performances as well as collaborations with special guests including bassist Edgar Meyer who previously featured on The Goat Rodeo Sessions. Fans can expect to hear some of his classic songs such as "The Blind Leaving The Blind" from Not All Who Wander Are Lost alongside new material from the Punch Brothers' latest album The Phosphorescent Blues.
