Calum Macphail was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1992. He grew up with folk music traditions all around him. He learnt to play guitar and write songs when he was 10 and played at ceilidhs and folk clubs in his area. His melodious storytelling was on display in early works like Whispering Pines (2013). Scottish ballads and modern acoustic folk music have had an impact on Calum's emotive manner of performance and his lyrics, which focus on personal and cultural stories.

Macphail put out Highland Echoes in 2017, and critics loved songs like "Lantern Light." He played at the Celtic Connections Festival and went on tour in Germany and Ireland. Working with folk singers and getting exposure on BBC Radio Scotland helped him get more attention. He won the Best Emerging Folk Artist award at the Scots Trad Music Awards in 2018, which shows how his reputation as a soulful acoustic singer is expanding.

Calum Macphail is still on tour, playing both full-band and solo acoustic gigs. "Lantern Light" and "Northern Skies," two songs that fans love, were played at recent shows in 2022 and 2023. His live shows mix complicated guitar playing with stories. Buy your Calum Macphail tickets on Yadara right now to see real Scottish folk music live.
