About Andy McKee

American guitar player Andy McKee has released six studio albums, two extended plays, one live album as of this moment. He is known for his distinctive style of alternate picking and fingerstyle percussive guitar, as well as his use of tapped harmonics. McKee employs several standard "guitar hero" techniques such as two-handed tapping, tremolo picking and arpeggios. In 2002 he was named one of Guitar One magazine's Top 10 Greatest Acoustic Guitarists of all Time.

McKee grew up in Parkville, a suburb of Kansas City, Missouri. He began playing guitar at the age of 12. At first he was self-taught, but later took lessons from Mike Gordon. He cites Paul Simon's Graceland as one of his biggest musical inspirations. In 2000 he graduated from Parkville High School.

In 2001, McKee released his first album, Rhyme & Reason. The album was recorded in two weeks and was entirely self-produced. In 2003 he released his second album, Art of Motion. The album's success led to McKee being signed by DRT Entertainment. In 2004 he released his first live album, Live in Bellevue.

In 2006 McKee released his third studio album, Joyland. The album was recorded in Nashville and features guest appearances by country music artist Vince Gill and bluegrass musician Tim O'Brien. In 2009 McKee released his fourth studio album, Seeds from the Underground. The album was recorded in Seattle and features guest appearances by Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready and former Nirvana drummer and Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl.

In 2013 McKee released his fifth studio album, The Medicine Show. The album was recorded in Los Angeles and features guest appearances by System of a Down bassist Shavo Odadjian and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith.

McKee has been described as "one of the most proficient and talented acoustic guitarists performing today". He has been praised for his "unmatched technical ability" and "innovative style". His music has been featured on television shows such as Bones, One Tree Hill, and The L Word. He has also been featured in magazines such as Guitar World and Acoustic Guitar. McKee has toured with a number of well-known musicians, including Eric Johnson, Al Di Meola, and Joe Satriani. He has also performed at a number of music festivals, including Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and Austin City Limits.
