About Manila Killa

Chris Gavino creates a variety of summery EDM music under the moniker Manila Killa, including tropical house, trap, and laid-back dance-pop. He first gained notoriety for his remixes, recorded both solo and with Hotel Garuda, a duo, and co-founded the global artist collective Moving Castle. Manila Killa released 1993, his debut EP, in 2019 after releasing popular original singles including "I'm OK" and "Tonight." Gavino was raised in both Indonesia and the United States as a result of his family's many moves; he was born in the Philippines' capital city (thus his given name). He started playing the cello at an early age, but he didn't start taking music seriously until he became interested in electronic music in high school. Gavino began producing dance music on his laptop after teaching himself how to use production software, initially being inspired by musicians like Daft Punk and Justice. While enrolled in a Washington, D.C., college. He co-founded the bigger Moving Castle collective, which also includes AObeats, Robokid, and Hunt for the Breeze, among others, and formed a duo called Hotel Garuda with Los Angeles producer Candle Weather. In addition, he remixed songs by artists like London Grammar, Dawn Golden, and Lana Del Rey, some of which earned millions of SoundCloud streams. 2015 saw the official release of Manila Killa's remix of the M Machine's "Don't Speak" by Skrillex's OWSLA label. He was already a successful touring musician at that point, playing at important festivals like Coachella and Electric Daisy Carnival as well as dance clubs all over the world. In 2015, he started putting out his own dance-pop tracks. In 2016, "All That's Left" (with Joni Fatora) and "Youth" (featuring Satica) both received a lot of airplay. 2017 saw the release of "I'm OK" (featuring Shaylen), "I Want You" (with Matthew John Kurz), and "Tonight" (featuring Kidswaste). Manila Killa's debut EP, 1993, which featured collaborations with Mansionair and Sara Skinner, was released in 2019 following the release of "Everyday, Everyday" (with Nevve) in 2018.
