About Willie Nelson

Willie Hugh Nelson is an American country singer-songwriter. Born in Abbott, Texas, he started his career as a singer in the country band The Highwaymen. He has released over 60 albums, including 31 studio albums and 16 compilations. Willie Nelson music style is characterized by his distinctive voice, guitar playing, and storytelling abilities. Nelson has been described as one of the most important figures in country music. He has been awarded several prestigious awards, including the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and the Kennedy Center Honors. In 2015, Nelson received the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song from the Library of Congress. Nelson wrote his first song at age seven and joined his first band at ten. He left home at sixteen and found success as a musician playing in honky tonks and bars. He charmed the audience with comical stories of his childhood in Texas between tracks, and of course, he played all his greatest hits. He ended the set with a grand finale of "You Were Always On My Mind."

He moved to Nashville in 1964, where he signed a contract with RCA Victor and released his first album, ...And Then I Wrote. The album's success was followed by a string of successful albums, including Yesterday's Wine (1971), Shotgun Willie (1972), and Red-Headed Stranger (1975). In the late 1970s, Nelson's career stagnated; he did not release an album for several years. In 1985, he released his critically acclaimed album, Phases and Stages. The album's success revitalized his career, and he released a string of successful albums in the late 1980s and early 1990s, including Highwayman (1985), et cetera (1988), and Across the Borderline (1993). Nelson has been active in several social and political causes, including Farm Aid, Greenpeace, and the Campaign for Marijuana Reform. He has also been outspoken about the need for gun control. He just had his Outlaw Music Festival Tour!

Willie Nelson is returning to the road and stopped in Holmdel. The legendary American musician served as the festival's headlining act this August 2023, at the PNC Bank Arts Center. Additionally scheduled are The Avett Brothers, Marcus King, Kathleen Edwards, Flatland Cavalry, and Particle Kid. This is simply not a different concert. Last April 29, Nelson turned 90. Nelson joked with AARP, "I retire after every tour." "However, I'm always prepared to return. The bus is something I enjoy. On the bus, I have everything I require. I've never had to check into a hotel room.
