Turnpike Troubadours is an American country music band from Tahlequah, Oklahoma founded in 2005. The band's name refers to the Turner Turnpike, a freeway in Oklahoma. The band has released five studio albums – Bossier City (2010), self-titled Turnpike Troubadours (2012), Diamonds & Gasoline (2014), The Fire Inside (2016), and A Long Way from Your Heart (2017). They have also released one live album, Live in Oklahoma (2015). The band's music is a blend of Red Dirt, Texas country, and southern rock. The Turnpike Troubadours were founded in 2005 by Michael Herring, Ryan Engleman, and Evan Felker, and were soon joined by Kyle Nix, Hank Early, Gabe Pearson, and RC Edwards. They went to high school together in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Herring and Engleman were in a band together called The Sundogs. Felker was the lead singer and guitarist for a country rock band called The Travis Band.
They would get together and play music for fun. They began writing songs and soon realized that they had something special. Before this, the band was accompanying music sensation Miranda Lambert on tour, in addition to their live performances. The Turnpike Troubadours self-released their first album, Bossier City, in 2007. The Turnpike Troubadours album was recorded in Nashville, Tennessee with producer George Bradfute. It was well-received in the Oklahoma music scene. The band began to play shows all over the state. In 2008, they released a live album called Live at Billy Bob's Texas. The live album was recorded at the world-famous country music club in Fort Worth, Texas. In 2010, the Turnpike Troubadours signed with Bossier City Records. They released their second studio album, self-titled Turnpike Troubadours, in 2012. The album was once again produced by George Bradfute. It featured the singles "Good Lord Lorrie" and "Before The Devil Knows You're Dead". The Turnpike Troubadours began to gain national attention with their third studio album, Diamonds & Gasoline.
The album was released in 2014 on Bossier City Records. It was produced by Mike McCarthy. The album featured the singles "Down Here" and "Something to Hold On To". The Turnpike Troubadours released their fourth studio album, The Fire Inside, in 2016. The album was produced by Ryan Engleman. It featured the singles "The Bird Hunters" and "Pay No Rent". The Turnpike Troubadours released their fifth studio album, A Long Way from Your Heart, in 2017. The album was produced by Josh Morningstar. It featured the singles "Seven Oaks" and "A Little Less Than Whole". The Turnpike Troubadours have toured extensively throughout the United States. They have played at some of the most prestigious music festivals, including Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and Austin City Limits. The band has also appeared on late-night television shows, such as The Late Show with David Letterman and The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
