The Oak Ridge Boys, originally known as the Oak Ridge Quartet, are an American country and gospel vocal quartet that has been entertaining audiences since the 1940s. Originally formed in 1945 in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, the group is composed of Duane Allen, Joe Bonsall, William Lee Golden, and Richard Sterban. The group has achieved much success over the years due to its unique sound and powerful vocals. Their first hit single was “Dream On” which reached No. 6 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart in 1973. Since then they have had numerous hits including “Elvira” which went to No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot Country Singles chart in 1981. They also had several other top 10 singles such as “Bobbie Sue” and “American Made” from their album Bobbie Sue (1982). The Oak Ridge Boys have released twenty-one studio albums with their latest being 17th Avenue Revival (2019).
The group has won four Grammy Awards for Best Gospel Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal for their song "I'll Fly Away" (1980) and Best Southern Gospel Album for Unstoppable (2006). In addition, they have been nominated for 10 CMA Awards throughout their career winning Vocal Group of The Year in 1977 and 1978. They were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2015 making them only one of two gospel groups to be inducted into this prestigious honor.
