LaRue was born in Taft, Texas, and grew up in Yanush/Buffalo Valley, Oklahoma, where he still goes frequently. He began playing country music at a young age and has been doing so ever since. LaRue has released eight albums and one live album, all of which have been well received by critics. His latest album, Us Time, was released in 2016. LaRue's music typically falls into the red dirt or Texas country genres, and his lyrics often deal with topics such as love, heartbreak, and drinking. His musical style has been compared to that of George Strait and Robert Earl Keen. In addition to his solo work, LaRue has also collaborated with other artists, including Willie Nelson and Cross Canadian Ragweed. LaRue is a well-known live performer, and he frequently tours throughout the United States. He has appeared at a number of music festivals, including the Austin City Limits Music Festival and the Red Dirt BBQ & Music Festival.
