Kathy Mattea is an American country music and bluegrass singer. Active since 1984 as a recording artist, she has recorded fifteen albums and charted more than thirty singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts, including four Number One hits "Goin' Gone", "Love at the Five and Dime", "455 Rocket", and "Burnin' Old Memories". She has won two Grammy Awards (for Best Female Country Vocal Performance and Best Country Song) and received fourteen nominations. She has also received eight Country Music Association Awards, a British Country Music Association Award, and three Americana Music Honors & Awards. Kathy Mattea was born on June 21, 1959, in South Charleston, West Virginia. She began singing at age four in her father's church. In 1976, while attending Nashua Community College in Nashua, New Hampshire, Mattea performed at a bluegrass festival and caught the attention of Nashville record producer Jerry Kennedy, who helped her sign a recording contract with Mercury Records. She released her self-titled debut album in 1984. It included the singles "Street Talkin'" and "What Does It Take (To Win Your Love)".
