About Chris Cagle

Christopher Norris Cagle is an American country music artist. He has released five albums for Capitol Nashville, and one each for EMI Records Nashville, Lyric Street Records, and Slide Show Music Group. In addition, he has issued a greatest hits package and twenty-seven singles. Of these singles, only "What a Beautiful Day" (a duet with Dierks Bentley from Cagle's self-titled 2000 album) and "I Breathe In, I Breathe Out" (from Play It Loud) were Number One hits on the Billboard country music charts.

He performed odd jobs all throughout Nashville for the following five years before signing a songwriting contract and contributing to David Kersh's record tracks. He was found by a Virgin Records agent from the recently established Nashville division while he was working at a restaurant, and the label signed him to a recording contract in 2000. The same year, he released his debut album, Play it Loud. The album produced four chart singles for Cagle on the Billboard country music charts: "My Love Goes On and On", "I Breathe In, I Breathe Out", "Laredo" (a duet with Pat Green), and "What a Beautiful Day" (a duet with Dierks Bentley). All of these singles were Top 40 hits on the Billboard country charts, except for "Laredo", which peaked at number 49. A fifth single, "Chicks Dig It", was released in early 2001 but did not chart.

In late 2002, Cagle was dropped from Virgin's roster. He then signed to Capitol Nashville, releasing his second album, Chris Cagle, in 2003. This album's lead-off single "I'd Be Lies" failed to enter the Top 40. follow-up "What Kinda Gone" was more successful, however, peaking at number 21 on the country charts in early 2004. After it came "My Life's Been a Country Song", which peaked at number 32, and finally "Walmart Parking Lot", which failed to chart. The album itself peaked at number 11 on the Top Country Albums charts and was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

Cagle's fourth album, Anywhere but Here, was released in late 2005. Its lead-off single "Miss Me Baby" became his first Top Ten hit on the country charts since "What Kinda Gone", peaking at number 10 in early 2006. The album's second single, "Something to Be Real For", failed to enter the Top 40, and its third release, "Wal-Mart Parking Lot", was released in 2007 and did not chart. Following it was "What I Need to Do", which peaked at number 57 in early 2008, becoming the album's final single. Anywhere but Here itself peaked at number nine on the Top Country Albums charts, becoming Cagle's first album to miss the top five.

In early 2008, Cagle left Capitol Nashville. He then signed to Lyric Street Records, with which he released his fifth album, My Life's Been a Country Song, that August. The album's lead-off single, "Miss Me Baby", peaked at number 54 on the country charts, becoming its only single. Following Cagle's departure from Lyric Street, he signed to Slide Show Music Group, an independent record label, in early 2010. That July, he released a digital single for the song "Let There Be Cowgirls", which was followed by his sixth album of the same name in October. This album's lead-off single, "Are You Ready for the Country", peaked at number 47 on the country charts in early 2011. It was followed by "Let There Be Cowgirls", which failed to chart, before Cagle exited Slide Show as well.

In 2012, Cagle signed to Bigger Picture Music Group, an independent record label. He released his seventh album, Back in the Game, that August. The album's lead-off single, "Got My Country On", peaked at number 44 on the country charts in early 2013. It was followed by the single "Chicks Dig It", which failed to chart. Cagle left Bigger Picture in 2014 and signed to eOne Nashville later that year. He released his eighth album, Calm & Chaos, in October 2015. The album's lead-off single, "Dance Baby Dance", peaked at number 53 on the country charts in early 2016.

In early 2017, Cagle parted ways with eOne Nashville. In May of that year, he announced his ninth studio album, Back to Us, would be released independently on July 28, 2017. The album's lead-off single, "What Are We Doing", was released to radio on June 5, 2017. Back to Us peaked at number 37 on the Top Country Albums chart upon its release.
