Bradly Douglas Paisley is an American country music singer-songwriter. His music has elements of both traditional country and Southern rock, and his lyrics often incorporate humor and pop culture references. Starting with his 1999 debut album, Who Needs Pictures, he has released eleven studio albums and a Christmas compilation on the Arista Nashville label, with all of his albums, certified Gold or higher by the RIAA. He set a new record in 2009 for most consecutive singles (ten) reaching the top of that chart. Paisley has sold over 12 million records and won three Grammy Awards, 14 Academy of Country Music Awards, 14 Country Music Association Awards, and two American Music Awards. He has earned country music's crowning achievement, becoming a member of the Grand Ole Opry. Paisley also wrote a few songs for other artists, including Tim McGraw and Carrie Underwood. In 2007, Paisley and Underwood recorded a song called "Oh Love" for her album Carnival Ride. Paisley was born on October 28, 1972, in Glen Dale, West Virginia. He is the only child of Douglas Edward "Doug" Paisley, who worked for the West Virginia Department of Transportation, and Sandra Jean "Sandy" Paisley (née Jarvis), a teacher. He was raised in Glen Dale, West Virginia. As a young boy, he did not care about country music and was more interested in rock bands such as the Eagles and Led Zeppelin. Despite his father's interest in country music, Paisley displayed a strong dislike of the genre early on. When Paisley was 7, his grandfather drove him to a Steve Martin concert, and the experience left an impression on the young boy. He later recalled that "I thought it was the greatest show I ever saw." Around that same time, Paisley developed an interest in the guitar. Starting with his 1999 debut album Who Needs Pictures, Paisley has released eleven studio albums and one Christmas compilation on the Arista Nashville label, with all of his albums, certified gold or higher by the RIAA. In September 2009, Paisley broke a new record for the most consecutive singles (ten) to reach the top of the Billboard Country charts. His singles "We Danced" and "Wrapped Around" from his second album Part II was the first of these ten. The previous record was nine, set by Dwight Yoakam in the early 1990s. Paisley's tenth consecutive number-one single, "Waitin' on a Woman", broke the record. This streak ended with "Water", which peaked at number 2. As of June 2017, Paisley has amassed 31 top 10 singles on the US Billboard Country Airplay chart, 20 of which have reached number 1. Paisley won his first Grammy Award in 2006 for Best Male Country Vocal Performance for his song "Letter to Me". He was also nominated for four other Grammys that year, winning Best Country Album for Time Well Wasted and Best Country Instrumental Performance for "Cluster Pluck", a song that features Paisley playing guitar with John Fogerty and Brad Paisley. In 2007, Paisley won two more Grammys: Best Country Collaboration with Vocals for his duet with Carrie Underwood on "Oh Love", and Best Country Instrumental Performance for his song "Cluster Pluck". Paisley has won 14 Academy of Country Music Awards, 14 Country Music Association Awards, and two American Music Awards. He was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 2001 and was made a member of the West Virginia Music Hall of Fame in 2007. In 2008, Paisley was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. His albums have all received at least Gold certification, with Mud on the Tires being especially successful after 70 weeks in the charts.
