Albert Lee's first professional gig was with The Everly Brothers in 1964. He toured with them for two years and recorded three albums with them. Around 40 guitars, including Don Everly's Gibson J-200, are in Albert Lee's collection. One was constructed by the Gibson Guitar Corporation for Don Everly, and the other was made for Phil. The guitars have identical Everly Brothers white pickguards and an all-black, high-gloss lacquered finish. The guitar was intended to be given to the Country Music Hall of Fame by the Everly Brothers' manager Wesley Rose, but Everly told him that instruments like that should be played, not kept in a glass case. Along with his Gibson Everly Brothers model, Don Everly gave it to Lee.
